3-Week Outdoor Series
Wednesdays at 6:30P
led by Malerie Golgan
Let’s be honest yoga isn’t as accessible as it needs to be. So many people are told to do yoga to help with all kinds of things they live with or go through in life but many people can’t find classes that are made for them. Unfortunately most yoga classes default to the able bodied individual and ask everyone else to figure it out and we aren’t okay with that. Accessibility means crafting practices with specific groups and needs in mind.
Every Wednesday from June 9th-23rd at 6:30pm in Brownwood Park (off Pendleton Rd by the tennis courts) join Malerie for classes that are done completely seated and lying down. These practices will include strengthening, stretching, breath work, and meditation.
Who is this great for? Anyone with fall risk or balance instability, low energy and fatigue, joint pain (chronic or acute), seniors, beginners, anyone who wants a more gentle practice and more!
Will you still get benefits from doing a practice seated/lying down instead of standing?
Yoga is not about standing on your feet or hands. Yoga in it’s purest form is about connection/union and awareness. All of which will be available in these practices.
Also because we know every one needs something different to truly care for their body in the case class includes something that isn’t suitable to your body we will talk you through visualizing the movement which has great benefits to attention, memory, perception, motor control as well as to self-esteem and motivation. In fact physical practices paired with cognitive practices are more beneficial than either done alone.
So if you’ve tried yoga and felt it wasn’t accessible or have never tried it out of fearing it wouldn’t be give us a chance to help you into your practice. We know navigating disability, chronic pain, etc. is expensive so your first session in this series will only be $5. This way you get to try out the practice at a low cost to see if it fits what you need. Sign up for just one to try it out or as your schedule allows or bundle the whole month to save long term.
